Ocean Speedway 4-2-10,
Ok, I thought this will be an
easy week to write about.
“It rained”.
The End.
But then I realized that we got
two weeks before the next Ocean Sprints presented by
Taco Bravo Series race. Soooo…
The trip over to the track was
ok, but when I got to the top of Mt Madonna and saw
that I couldn’t see into the valley and it was just
as overcast and drizzly on that side of the hill as
it was on the Santa Clara Valley side, I thought
well at least we’ll all get to visit for a while
before we head home! Bruce Velo from
cmpvideo2go.com, who was with me had other thoughts.
He just wondered if there would be Taco Bravo to
eat, since Dennis Wuollet, who owns it, had said he
was going to have some food at the team trailers of
Kurt Nelson and Craig Smith, who Taco Bravo
sponsors. We never got Taco Bravo. No fault of
Dennis. Lol.
Anyway,
Rickit, who is the chief track steward, signed us in
with the optimistic statement that “It’s supposed to
all blow through in a couple of hours”. Riiiight !!!
lol again. Hey, no matter what, it was going
to be a no win deal. No matter if you are of the
opinion that the thing should have been cancelled
right off the bat, or that it was good that they
hung on as long as they did before they pulled the
plug, not everyone was going to be happy. Oh well.
Anywho. We got a chance to hang out and visit a bit
and see some cars. Roamed around and stopped to see
most everyone. Ostheimer crew, Sanders guys, Sean
Leggat who owns the #14 of Matt Sargent. We also had
a chance to chat with Brad Furr and his crew chief
Kenny. Steve Osborne had a chance to tell us about
his marketing projects and how he is using his race
car to help market in conjunction with other events
and venues besides racing. Just a bunch of bench
racing. What else are you gonna do in the rain? The
only sprint motor that I saw fire was Evan Suggs who
had not had the chance to fire off his 360 till he
got to the track. They found a fuel filter leak at
the final filter just before the injecters. So they
got in the most racing of the night ‘cause they at
least got to work on their stuff! Lol. Oh, as
expected Pete Murphy was there but I only got to say
a quick hi as we were trying to get the heck out of
there before we all got stuck. The pits were filling
up pretty well and it’s too bad the thing didn’t
fly. It was drizzling and sprinkling on and off to
varying degrees the whole time we were there.
Almost
forgot, Bruce got his first interview of the Ocean
Speedway season with Adam Kaeding who is running a
non winged spec sprint in tribute colors to his
Grandpa Howard. Nice looking #3 sprinter.
On my way back from the
grandstand side of the fence I ran into Gary Thomas
and his mom Cindy. Funny cause I had gone to the
other side of the fence to look for GT! So as we
were BS’ing with the Suggs crew the call was made to
pull the plug on the night. That started the mad
dash to get out. I was lucky to get out before the
rigs started getting stuck and slipping around. I
heard after I left that there were some problems
with that, i don't know, but I was out so who cares!
I have to mention my little
buddy Ricky Wright Jr. it was Jr’s 18th
birthday so me and Bruce ended up at the Wright One
shop eating cake, (mmm cake!) and wishing Jr a happy
birthday. Team mate Shawn Wright and his family were
there as well and Shawn’s mom Kristi had brought
stuff to make pulled pork tacos. (mmm tacos) Soooo…..
we stuffed ourselves and were too full for our usual
Taco Bravo run after the races.
I really don’t know what more
to say. That's pretty much the extent of my night. I
wish i had more to tell you guys. We had fun but it
still sucked! Oh by the way, Rickit says to let you
all know they will be racing the 360’s back to the
yellow flag this year and having double file
restarts. NOT!!! Rickit was just fooling!
So let’s all hope we get the
show in on April 16th. That’s the next
scheduled Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo
Series event.
See you at the races, Buzz Rightrear.
