Ocean Speedway  3-16-2010

I thought I would try to give you guys a little info that I have picked up about some of the teams and drivers that plan on running the Ocean Speedway/Taco Bravo 360 Series this coming season. The 33e team with Evan Suggs has two 360 motors this year that are ready to go. They have their 360 car tuned up and have had some stuff powder coated by Willie Croft to make it look good and protect it from the abuse of racing. They have been hard at work on their trailer to clean it up in the off season and make it ready for the new season. The team is excited to get back to Ocean speedway as it is close to their Scotts Valley home.

Cory Eliason from Visalia says he will make the Ocean/Taco Bravo Series his focus this season. He wants to run for the points championship and it will be great to see him on a weekly basis.

Wayne Katen from San Jose has put together a Maxim this year and with help from new sponsor Car Quest Auto Parts will be looking to be more competitive this year.

I am hearing that Devon Ostheimer will be concentrating on winged racing this year and will be looking to have a good showing in the competitive Ocean Speedway 360 Series presented by Taco Bravo this year.

Other drivers that I have heard will be making the trip over the hill to Watsonville this year from the Central Valley include Pete Murphy. I have heard Pete plans to run the whole deal but have not confirmed that. The “Central Valley Samurai” Garrett Ishi plans to make some of the races. I have also been told that Steven Tiner plans on traveling to Ocean as well but have not confirmed that with him or to what extent he plans on being there. Davey Pombo plans to run some shows at the track as well.  Of course Tommy Tarlton who picked up his first Ocean championship last year will be back to defend this year.

Missing this year will be the #20 Werbach car as they just don’t have the funding. We will miss you TW along with the #31 of Jason Newton who just couldn’t find the money to keep racing and has sold the car to “Wild Bill” Aton. Billy may not make all the Ocean Shows but will be exciting to watch when he is there.

Ricky Wright Jr will be back in his dad’s #35 Maxim cars. Jr had a good season last year winning at Ocean, Petaluma and Chowchilla. Also running a team car to Jr will be Lodi, CA driver Shawn Wright. Although both drivers share their last names, they are no relation. The family business, Wright Process Systems, owned by Shawn's dad Dennis, will sponsor the #35jr car owned by Rick Wright.

You can be sure that BK will be one of the usual suspects returning to Ocean so I don’t want the Campbell Mafia on me for leaving Brent out, lol!

You can be sure everyone will be racing hard to be the first champion of the series under the Taco Bravo name. Speaking of Taco Bravo, Craig Smith and Kurt Nelson will be behind the wheel of Taco Bravo cars this season with Dave Haver power. “Cowboy” Craig in the #39 and Kurt in the 72w.

I hope everyone is pumped up and ready to get out of the house and welcome in the new season as it launches on Friday April 2nd at Ocean Speedway at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.
